Beautiful hotel in a nice area. The front desk staff are friendly and the hotel is very nice. I loved walking around the area too looking at all the old houses. The breakfast was fine. Typical hotel food and overpriced but not surprise. Would def stay here again if in the area.

False Advertising and Unethical Practices.

I stayed at the Strathallan Spa in Rochester, New York, thinking they had a pool and spa as advertised online. When I got there, they told me there's no pool anymore, and the spa isn't even part of the hotel... it's across the street. They told me the pool had been removed around a year ago. I'm a disabled veteran with chronic pain, and I was really looking forward to using these amenities to help with that. This is the whole reason I booked the hotel. When I tried to leave because of this, the person at the front desk, Chelsea, basically told me that if I stayed, they couldn't help me out if I had complaints. It felt like a trick to keep me from getting my money back since I wouldn't be able to argue with my credit card company after staying the night. After you stay the night it's considered "services rendered" and they know this, hence them "strongly discouraging" me from checking out. They didn't offer me anything to make up for this, not even a free breakfast. They mentioned that the issue of falsely advertised amenities is known, especially on Expedia, and not on their direct website. I was told that customers bring this up often. From what I've seen in other reviews, the hotel tends to blame the customer, provide misleading responses, or even gaslight to downplay negative feedback. This business practice is unacceptable, and I'm in the process of filing complaints with the Better Business Bureau, Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for misleading advertising, NYS Consumer Protection Office, The American Hotel and Lodging Association (AHLA), and The Attorney General’s office. If you're in a similar situation, consider reaching out to the following agencies for support: Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for misleading advertising. NYS Consumer Protection Office. The American Hotel and Lodging Association (AHLA) The Attorney General’s office in NYS. This behavior by the Strathallan is disappointing, and I believe it's important for potential customers to be aware of their practices.

Great rooms, breakfast surprise

The room was a king suite which was quite spacious with a fluffy pillow and comfortable bed. Upon check in, the friendly woman told us breakfast is served behind you in Char and gave us the hours. I'm not much of a breakfast eater but figured I'd grab a yogurt and muffin before hitting the road. There was a buffet with breads, yogurt, fruit, and eggs, bacon, and sausage, but I don't eat much at breakfast. My husband grabbed some mediocre eggs and a few slices of bacon. I asked if there was coffee and it was brought out promptly. We were surprised when a bill for 47.00 came. Perhaps partially my fault for not remembering that it was not included, but I also think the woman at check out should say, You can purchase breakfast at the restaurant located by the fireplace. That's a hefty price for a yogurt and muffin. Someone said they make pancakes and custom eggs and omelets. That was never indicated to us at all so I'm not sure if that is true. Anyway, I've learned a lesson. I would stay here again but probably walk somewhere down the road for breakfast. Live and learn!

Amazing experience! The location is nice… close to downtown Rochester. Room cozy, clean and full of space. Great breakfast selection. I had then an issue with my since they tried to break in and steal it and the super professional personnel at the lobby supported me and helped with the policy to get the report done. Tks so much!

I travel often to Rochester for work (once a month) and the Strathallan is the BEST!! The staff are wonderful and the Char restaurant and bar are top notch. Truly a welcoming and warm atmosphere and the food is wonderful. Hattie’s (the rooftop bar) is a great place to catch the sunset and the fire pits make it cozy upstairs and downstairs when it’s chilly out.
